7-day driving plan in UK?!!(London-Cambridge-Yo.
We plan to hire a car and drive around UK to explore the breath-taking countryside scene in more causal way. Can anyone please advise if below route manages to have daily driving distance around 200 kms or within 2-3 hours per day? And how much it cost for petrol a 200km distance in UK? We also plan to watch the Wimbledon Tennis Game on 29June in Central Court. Does anyone know how earlier should we queue for the day ticket (not ground pass)? Thank you very much!

Depending on the vehicle, it's liable to cost you a bloody fortune in petrol the amount Gordon Brown charges in taxes on the stuff these days (around 80% last I heard. fuel duty + a sales tax on top of it). going back & forth between Whitby & Middlesbrough a few years back while my Mum was recovering from Neurosurgery there (a 60mile / 96km round trip, 6 times a week) in a car reputed to do around 26mile per gallon was costing around £70 a week in petrol back in 2001. (1mile = 1.6km, 1 UK gallon = 4.54litres).
As for the distances, according to my route planner software (or you should be able to work it out over @ Multimap.com yourself).
London(Westminster) - York (via Cambridge) = 211.70miles (340kms), and claims it will take 3hrs 40mins (not including traffic hold-ups, of which there are liable to be plenty).
York - Edinburgh = 190.30miles (306kms), and claims it'll take 3hrs 14mins (but will probably be closer to 4 or 5).
Edinburgh - Windermere = 139.60miles (224.66442kilometres), 2hrs 24minutes travel time.
Windermere - Oxford (via Chester) = 253.20miles (370.47kms). claims it will take 3hrs 53mins. Try to avoid driving into Oxford it's self as the UK's leading motoring journalist Jeremy Clarkson says the traffic management system there is an absolute nightmare, as expressed in this article about the VW Golf GTi http://driving.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,12529-1415320,00.html (which also pretty much sums up driving in this country these days, like all Jeremy's excellent articles do).
Oxford - London (Wimbledon) = 59.50miles (95.75kms), claims it'll take 1hrs 4mins, but doesn't take into account getting lost on Oxford's one way system or the infamous London traffic.
